Spring Lawn Care Steps

Written by admin. Posted in Ground cover, Lawn maintenance, Spring lawn

Spring lawn care begins as soon as the weather starts turning nice. You can help your lawn become healthier, greener and lusher when you take care to follow through on some routine spring lawn care steps. Spring lawn care involves fertilizing, repairing damaged spots, planting new lawn seeds if necessary, aerating and a few other chore, such as raking and mowing.

Lawns enter a state of dormancy during the winter months and grow very little. That is why you hardly have to mow your lawn during the winter. However, during the winter the lawn is susceptible to damage and in order to get it growing and back into a healthy state, you must take care to follow through on some spring lawn care steps. The first spring lawn care step to take once you lawn begins to dry and thaw out is to rake up and clear away debris. Raking up the debris will help aerate the soil. This is a basic first spring lawn care step to take that will open up the lawn blades so fungal problems can be nipped in the bud before they gain a foothold. This may not seem like it but, raking is a very important spring lawn care step.

Spring lawn care also involves removing thatch or moss buildup. This step involves tearing up the thatch by performing post winter scarification on the lawn. This step may leave some bare patches which brings us to the next spring lawn care step, reseeding. It is important to reseed the bare patches.

Of course, lawn care always involves weeding. Getting the weeds out is really important if you want a beautifully maintained lawn. You don’t have to weed your lawn by hand. You can use a good weed killer on it. You should also take care of spring lawn care chores by fertilizing your lawn with a good fertilizer. Be careful not to fertilize your lawn too early though as this will cause the roots to weaken.
